A farm in Forsyth Bay – which the company had retested – was deemed “significantly non-compliant” due to pollution under its pens, caused by fish waste and uneaten fish food falling to the bed. Compliance was judged against a farm’s resource consent conditions and guidelines laid down by central and local government to encourage “environmentally responsible” aquaculture – both of which the farm in Te Hoiere/Pelorus Sound breached. A council spokesman said last week the new samples could not be used to check compliance because they were taken outside the annual inspection’s sampling parameters. “As such, the sampling is not compliant .” he said.
