Plans for an exciting new âcanopy walkâ and nature-themed playground at the Botanic Gardens have been revealed as Rockhampton Regional Council cashes in on a $9.46 million State Government funding boost.
Rockhampton Regional Council has secured funding for three major projects through the latest round of the Palaszczuk governmentâs Works for Queensland program.
Along with $1.4 million for the Botanic Gardens Playground Renewal project, RRC has been allocated $1.6 million to refurbish the Fitzroy River Boardwalk on the lower bank and $6.46 million to upgrade the North Rockhampton Sewage Treatment Plant.
Rockhampton region Mayor Tony Williams said the projects would be rolled out over the next three years.
From the unveils of some spectacular vehicles and bikes in the elite pavilion to the show n shine extravaganza in the CBD, this event has delivered something very unique for Rockhampton with crowds beyond our expectations across all four precincts, he said. This will go down in history for our city with an economic impact of more than $20 million, lots of lessons learned and great satisfaction knowing that we can diversify our event offerings and stage a major event that is very different to anything Rockhampton has seen before. And it s been great to see the backbone of any event, our fantastic volunteers, out and about helping to deliver the event.
Deanna Beatson will top the list, followed by Dave Bauer, Grant Mathers, Leyland Barnett, and Christian Shepherd.
Present at the Rockhampton Showgrounds for the draw were Ms Beatson with her daughters, as well as Mr Mathers, and Mr Barnett.
Mr Mathers, the brother of councillor Cherie Rutherford, said he had spent his whole life in division 3 and would listen to the concerns of its constituents.
But he began by speaking about road safety, crime, and the cost of living in Rockhampton.
“Cost of living is something that’s very important to me as well as a single dad with two lads still at home with me,” he said.
