LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Itâs the start of a new era for McNeese womenâs basketball, and first-year head coach Lynn Kennedy has wasted little time getting to work.
In one monthâs time, heâs already assembled his first signing class as the Cowgirlâs head coach, one that he hopes can bring McNeese back to the Southlandâs elite.
âIâm excited about our incoming class,â said first-year head coach Lynn Kennedy. âI tried to fit the pieces with what we have returning with what we have coming in. I think we have a great mix of returning players that will help as well as the new players we have coming in.â

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Solid pitching, defense, and one big inning was all McNeese softball needed to pick up a 7-0 shutout win in the opening game of its Southland Conference series over Abilene Christian here Friday.
The series will conclude with a doubleheader Saturday that has been moved up to a noon start. With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 20-21 overall and 10-6 in the SLC while ACU drops to 7-18 overall and 3-13 in the SLC.

HAMMOND McNeese softball avoided a Southland Conference series sweep here Saturday with a 3-1 series finale win over Southeastern Louisiana to improve to 19-21 overall and 9-6 in league play. The loss drops SE La. to 23-14 overall and 12-3 in the SLC.
McNeese jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Cori McCrary led the game off with a single to left field then stole second to herself in scoring position. A sac bunt by Jil Poullard moved McCrary to third base with one out. Kaylee Lopez’s sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed McCrary to score for the early lead.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - McNeese softball returns home this weekend to host Lamar in a three-game Southland Conference series beginning with a single game Friday at 6:30 p.m. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
McNeese (14-19, 5-4 SLC) enters the series tied for fifth in the league standings and will look to pick up its second straight conference series win after sweeping Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-2 (9 inn.), 6-1, 9-0 last weekend. The Cowgirls had their four-game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 road loss at South Alabama on Wednesday that saw the Cowgirls strand eight baserunners, seven of which were in scoring position.

The Wyoming Cowgirls basketball team will face UCLA in the first round of the NCAA tournament Monday night.
The 14th-seeded Cowgirls are playing in just their second-ever NCAA tournament, while UCLA is making its fifth straight appearance and was 16-5 on the regular season.
Wyoming left for Austin,Texas Tuesday and will be allowed to practice onThursday, if players pass their COVID-19 tests. Wyoming enters the tournament on a six game winning streak.
