Missouri crowns 3 champs at Cowboy Challenge University of Missouri Sports Information 2/14/2021 STILLWATER, Okla. No. 5 Mizzou Wrestling (10-0, 4-0 MAC) finished the regular season with three champions in the Cowboy Challenge featuring wrestlers from No. 6 Oklahoma State, Wyoming and West Virginia.
Redshirt junior Dack Punke took the first place title at 125 pounds, defeating sophomore teammate Noah Surtin in the finals. Freshman Josh Edmond won the title at 141 pounds, to improve to 10-0 on the season. Junior Brock Mauller also took home the championship at 149 pounds, defeating No. 4 Boo Lewallen in the finals.
Freshmen Trey Crawford, Sean Harman and Duwayne Villalpondo all secured third place finishes in their weight classes.
On Sunday the Cowboys wrestled in their biggest home event of the year, the Cowboy Challenge Tournament.
The event included Wyoming, WVU, Missouri and, of course, Oklahoma State. Daton Fix made his return to the mat and there were a number of big matches across the tournament.
Many wrestling fans were dismayed to learn that the early rounds of the event would not be available on television or online. The finals were slotted for ESPN+, but the quarterfinals and semifinals were not.
Bad weather, along with the current pandemic, makes attendance at the event not only difficult, but ill-advised in many scenarios. So even the most dedicated Cowboy fans were unable to watch.

Fireworks. That’s the only word to describe the college wrestling matches from this past weekend. The Penn State Nittany Lions returned to the mat and looked as close to championship form as this team has looked all season, Michigan pulled out a narrow, rivalry win against the Buckeyes and Navy topped Army 20-13 in another historic dual.
Add the fact that one top-ranked wrestler was taken down by a conference opponent, another top-ranked wrestler made his season debut and a third top-ranked wrestler is out temporarily because of a COVID-19 shutdown, and the intrigue only increases.
STILLWATER Daton Fix’s one-year suspension officially ended this week and the Oklahoma State wrestler is set to take the mat in the Cowboy Challenge at Gallagher-Iba Arena, a tournament OSU coach John Smith designed specifically for Fix’s return.
“He’s excited,” Smith said of Fix. “It’s been a long journey.”
Fix was suspended for one year, through last Wednesday, after testing positive for ostarine, a banned substance that is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
An investigation revealed that Fix unknowingly ingested the substance from a water bottle at his family home. His father had mixed supplements and ostarine in the water bottle and left it in the refrigerator.
