Your Healthy Family: Research Shows COVID-19 Vaccine Safe for Pregnant Women

Your Healthy Family: Research Shows COVID-19 Vaccine Safe for Pregnant Women Doctors involved in the latest research examined more than 130 women from three different groups: pregnant, non-pregnant and lactating. Posted at 9:53 AM, Apr 20, 2021 and last updated 2021-04-20 11:53:07-04 CLEVELAND, OHIO — Newly released data shows the COVID-19 vaccine is safe for pregnant women and can also provide protection for their baby, which doctors say is good news for those who may have been hesitant before. “If you look at the first data that came out in December, all the data was in non-pregnant patients, because the first clinical trials did not involve pregnant patients. So it’s not very comfortable for some people to make an informed decision without having data,” said Tosin Goje, MD, Ob/Gyn and infectious disease specialist for Cleveland Clinic.

In a first, scientists find a mutation in coronavirus after a baby gets infected in the womb

In a first, scientists find a mutation in coronavirus after a baby gets infected in the womb The genetic changes may have been stimulated by the baby coming in contact with the external environment outside the mother’s womb, suggests a study. A pregnant woman with suspected Covid-19 was rushed by ambulance to Skåne University Hospital, in Malmo, Sweden, suffering from sudden severe abdominal pain. The doctors noticed that the unborn infant had an abnormally low heart rate, which can be a sign that the baby is not getting enough oxygen. The doctors performed an emergency caesarean section and delivered the baby within minutes. Blood tests from the baby confirmed it had severely low oxygen, and throat swabs showed that both mother and baby were suffering from Covid-19.

No medical evidence to suggest COVID-19 vaccine causes fertility issues, doctors say No medical evidence to suggest COVID-19 vaccine causes fertility issues, doctors say By Kimberly Curth | January 27, 2021 at 5:00 PM CST - Updated January 27 at 5:39 PM NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Doctors want to dispel myths that the COVID-19 vaccine can cause fertility problems or harm to a developing baby. Jane Martin, M.D, at Ochsner Baptist, got both doses of the vaccine while she was pregnant. As a physician specializing in maternal-fetal medicine, she says she knew it was the best decision for her, her family, and her patients. “I was taking care of pregnant patients in the hospital who had COVID. I specialize in high-risk obstetrics, so, I take care of the sickest pregnant patients out there,” said Martin. “My risk of being exposed to COVID, my risk of contracting COVID in pregnancy was pretty high, so, for me, it was a very easy decision to get the vaccine.”
