SANTEE
The Santee City Council has sent a letter to the county Board of Supervisors criticizing Supervisor Nathan Fletcher for what they characterize as his “hateful rhetoric” in describing some of the backers of the recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom.
They have asked that Fletcher, a Democrat who represents District 4, issue a public apology and step down as board chairman. The council, made up of five registered Republicans, voted 4-0, with Councilman Ronn Hall abstaining, to send the letter.
The letter, approved Wednesday, admonishes Fletcher for comments he made during a Jan. 12 Zoom conference call to Democratic Party supporters in California. During the video, Fletcher spoke generally about the need to safeguard democracy, saying that some of the extremist groups involved in the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol are involved in the recall effort.
