(Lee County, Iowa) A Lee County child is raising money for her local Sheriff s Office to buy a rescue boat.
Five year-old Dempsey Wagner tells KCRG TV9 she had the idea to raise money for the boat after she lost two relatives to drowning in 2017.
So far, Wagner has raised over $7,300. Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber says the department has ordered the boat and the engine, but still needs additional water rescue gear. Donations have come in from as far as Alaska and the Carolinas.
Donations can be made online through Venmo at Erin-Wagner-49 or by mail to the Lee County Crime Stoppers at 2530 255th Street, Montrose, Iowa 52639.

Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber has wanted a rescue boat for his office since Jan. 3, 2017, the day he was sworn in as sheriff and immediately got a call about two fishermen on the Mississippi River whose boat had capsized just south of Montrose.
The men were missing. We wanted to go help, but when we got there, it was a gut-wrenching feeling that we were stranded on the shore just like everybody else, said Weber.
Iowa and Illinois DNR and other agencies responded, but it took some time, he said.
