Nearly 40 years after a body of a girl was found on Valentine s Day off a northern Arizona highway, she has been confirmed by police to be a teenage runaway from St. Louis.
Officials in Arizona identified girl found on February 14, 1982, west of Williams as 17-year-old Carolyn Eaton
Eaton ran away from home in St Louis, Missouri, after an argument around Christmas 1981
She was positively identified after a private company processed DNA from the body for entry into online ancestry databases for genetic comparison
She was last seen by a waitress at a truck stop cafe less than two weeks before discovery of her body
Patty Wilkins, the former waitress, said she saw Eaton with a man in his 60s wearing a cowboy hat with a peacock feather on February 2
Wilkins gave Eaton an aspirin for her toothache and asked her if she wanted to go with the man, or stay with her, to which the teen replied she was fine
