rocco says the county board passed a resolution not to accept any waste in this community. that doesn t matter, waste management that owns the landfill doesn t have to look at what the board says. it answers to the state. so it signed a contract with bp and started dumping the oily waste right where rocco and plenty of others feared they would. what concerns you most about this oil and the tar balls in this whole mixture going to the landfill. the long-term effects that we will have to endure, if it, in fact, is if, in fact, we do find that it is dangerous to it gets into your water or the water table, absolutely. reporter: keeping them honest, we re asking bp why it s disposed of spill waste in a county that pleaded with them not to. bp wouldn t comment. we asked ken holden to take us inside the landfill so we could see for ourselves why bp, the
given the enormity of what we re talking about here, the impact across the entire country, why do we need bp s permission. why doesn t the government, for example, foot the $8.4 million bill and let the scientists get to work to answer some of the questions that you re raising. i think bp should pay for it. i think bp should stand for bills paid. and this is certainly something that bp should pay for. i think it makes a lot of sense for this experiment to take place, especially the use of fluorescent dye in order to measure accurately how much oil and natural gas is coming out of this pipe. and and i think if it does require the federal government to pay for it, they should just put it on bp s bill. because ultimately, bp doesn t want to know the answer to the question because they have to pay a fine per barrel of oil.
best diagnosis for the situation. because of this this concern, you re with bp, you re saying, look, you got a dog in that race. if they come to you, work around, they re not happy with what they have, they re covered by bp. we know people have gone in to see their personal doctors. we don t have a problem with that. they need to go through the claims process and the workers compensation process. and that will be handled that way. we know it s happening. we re not forcing people to see any of the health facilities we have in the field. after valdez, they said 11,000 workers that were studied, 6,000 of them eventually got ill, some longer
