Nairobi MCAs want projects account to ease Sh1.5bn access

Summary
Nairobi county assembly members (MCAs) are rooting for the creation of an account to manage funds allocated for ward development to ensure completion within schedule.
This follows complaints by the county legislators over slow pace of execution of development projects in their wards.
The account, General Purpose Account, will be used to hold the Sh1.5 billion allocated for Nairobi’s 85 wards in the financial year ending June 30, 2022.

NMS to pay suppliers after Treasury releases Sh1.3bn
Nairobi County Assembly Budget and Appropriation chairperson Robert Mbatia said the payment process has begun.
NMS is processing payments for unpaid bills for the financial year ended June 30, 2019 for those who are owed Sh5 million and below.

Suppliers and contractors owed billions by City Hall can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Treasury released Sh1.3 billion for pending bills.

Members of County Assembly have put the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) on notice over failure to submit quarterly reports over the expenditure of funds allocated by City Hall for the past nine months.
The assembly now wants the Mohammed Badi-led institution to appear before different house committees to answer questions regarding the expenditure of funds as required by law.
Nairobi County Assembly Budget and Appropriation committee chairperson Robert Mbatia said with already nine months into the current financial year ending June 30, 2021, NMS is yet to submit quarterly budgetary reports in line with provisions of the Deed of Transfer of Functions and the County Allocation of Revenue Act (CARA).
