CNA accused of stealing from elderly patient still working in field

When Clarence Prinkey of Brevard died in 2016, the horde of after-death logistics quickly consumed his son, Kevin Prinkey, and his daughter-in-law, Xiomara Prinkey  calling relatives to notify them about Clarence Prinkey’s passing, planning his funeral, going through his things, not to mention processing their own grief.   As they rifled through a life s worth of belongings and paperwork, Kevin Prinkey noticed one particular thing was missing: his father’s check register. Clarence Prinkey had always kept the book in a small desk in the front of the house. When he’d ask his son to grab it for him, Kevin Prinkey always knew where to find it. But now it wasn’t there. Odd, he thought.

'It's about time': World Elder Abuse Awareness Day marks year of attention on older adults

Tom Dinki/WBFO News Buffalo officials observed World Elder Abuse Awareness Day following a year and pandemic that in many ways pushed older adults to the forefront. The occasion has been officially recognized by the United Nations since 2011, but the local law enforcement and human services officials who gathered Tuesday outside Erie County Hall say there’s been more attention on older adults over the last year due to COVID-19 than any year they can remember.   “It s about time,” said Kathy Kanaley, president of the Erie County Council on Elder Abuse. “I ve been in this business a long time and seen all kinds of stuff. Finally shedding light on these issues and having the community response, the media response, is great.”
