kentucky. it s hard to put into words the amount of devastation that we ve seen. you know, you re talking about some really, really good people here in eastern kentucky don t have a whole lot. and a lot of them have lost everything they ve got. you can hear just sorrow in his voice. the fast rising flood waters forced many people to evacuate, but the storms ended up catching a lot of people by surprise because they happened the middle of the night. and we are learning some really heart breaking stories, like this one in knotts county, four people killed when kids and their parents were forced to go to the roof. the young ones were swept away as their parents tried to hold on. there was a house there and this trailer with this family of six. and it just washed them away. cnn s joe johns joins us live now from hazard, kentucky. you can see some of the damage behind him. joe, tell what you say the latest is. reporter: well, just let me give you an idea, sara, of wher
around the clock to find families who still may be trapped, some residents losing everything. animals are without people. homes are destroyed. we need as much help, please, i m begging anyone who sees this, help my town, help my people. cnn s joe johns is live for us in hazard, kentucky. and the debris field is tremendous, joe, and we heard the governor there say they continue to look for people because so many remain unaccounted for. what are you finding? reporter: that s right, and they say it s possible this could go on for weeks, not days. so they say a picture is worth a thousand words, fred. and i just wanted to show you where we are. we are in hazard, kentucky. you look behind me here, there s the foundation of a house. believe it or not, before the flood there was a house there, a woman inside told us she started feeling the house moving around 1:00, 2:00 in the morning. she gets out, and then the rushing water essentially d demolishes the house and sends the de
kentucky showing some of the damage left behind by historic floods that killed at least 25 people. you can see floodwaters slammed this school bus into a building, just devastated there, wrecked cars and downed trees are everywhere. tomorrow eastern kentucky is expecting several more rounds of rain that could make this flooding worse. electricity is out in many places. state officials say 21 drinking water systems have been damaged by rushing waters. there have been more than 600 water rescues. among the dead are four young kids from one family, the youngest just two years old. the governor of that state said it s vast destruction in that area he s worried they ll find victims for weeks to come. this is still an emergency situation, we are in search and rescue mode. again, that count is going to continue to go up. we don t lose this many people in flooding. this is a real tough one. cnn s evan joins me now. just incredible footage of the devastation where you re at right
