counterintelligence probe of the trump campaign is yielding results. as you know schiff told cbs news that fbi ask started to hand over information to your committee in recent days. have you seen more cooperation from the fbi as well? yes. we have. and this is something that i was referring to earlier. i think that some of the pressure that is being brought to bear on the doj and fbi with regard to the counterintelligence materials is actually coming from not only our side but also the republican side which is a good thing and it is starting to yield cooperation. you may already know this but devon nunes and chairman schiff together had subpoenaed or asked for these documents with regard to counterintelligence information and i think that this is starting to bear fruit. have you been briefed on what is going on with iran right now,
investigation as well. if you were the relevant committee in congress that s supposed to have that information, undies, pants, then belt. we know that because we saw this exact same pattern happen a week or so ago with the intelligence committee. by statute the intelligence committees are entitled to counterintelligence information and foreign intelligence information that s turned up by the justice department, including in the course of a special counsel investigation. they get that stuff. that s why intelligence committees exist. nevertheless, when mueller s redacted report was released to the public and there was no sign in that report of what happened to any of the counterintelligence investigation that had reportedly been started at the fbi concerning the president and the potential import of all those contacts between his campaign and his business and the russian government including all those contacts and ties they lied about, when there was no sign of that investigation in
start now and we hope that it will continue by the department. this i should also mention, however, is no substitute in any way, shape or form for the appearance of bob mueller before our committee and the judiciary committee. it s no substitute for the appearance of don mcgahn and the other witnesses that have been subpoenaed to come into committee, but we are pleased that we are finally going to start receiving documents that we are entitled to from the department of justice. what do you plant to do with this counterintelligence information that you are going to get from the department? i m sorry, elijah. i m sorry, say that again. what do you plan to do with this counterintelligence information that you re getting from the department? well, it will be part of our investigation. the entire fbi probe began as a counterintelligence investigation. we have yet to determine what that investigation found in terms of counterintelligence findings or even whether it is ongoing. but th
move on. so if he is comfortable testifying in private, so will it be, but let s have a record that all of us can consult and go forward with. all right. house majority whip jim clyburn, thanks for joining us this morning. good luck in this meeting. thank you very much. some breaking news on capitol hill at this hour. house intelligence chairman adam schiff is canceling a meeting that would have taken enforcement action against the justice department. cnn s lauren fox joins us now live from capitol hill to explain in. so what changed here? reporter: good morning, erica. that s right, a bit of a break through this morning with the department of justice. agreeing to hand over some of the counterintelligence information from the mueller report, that s something that the house intelligence committee has been asking for over the last month or so. we expect that there is some breakthrough and this comes just before nancy pelosi the speaker of the house is slated to sit with some of h
which is there are 14 ongoing matters that were referred by special counsel mueller to other jurisdictions. i think 11 of them were completely redacted within the mueller report. and so there might be all kinds of other wrongdoing that is being investigated currently. right. that we have no knowledge of. we don t know the subject matter nor do we know the targets. this is very important. and from an oversight standpoint, we must know what those matters are about. one other issue which is the subject of great inquiry around here is the counterintelligence information contained within the special counsel s investigation. we still haven t received those findings, despite the fact that chairman schiff and ranking member nunes in a joint bipartisan manner requested this information. we must have that information so that we can protect our national security. all right, congressman, thank you very much. thank you.
