Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai is the latest to install a beach clean-up station to encourage conservation.

Here is a frightening fact: Beach trash that travels into the ocean kills more than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles each year through ingestion and entanglement, according to Relic, a Long island apparel company that sells sustainable clothing and has a mission to help preserve the environment. One project that Relic helps to promote is the installation of Beach Clean-Up Stations across the shorelines of Long Island. The program provides beachgoers with a station with baskets to pick up trash and deposit it into a conveniently located trash receptacle. The baskets provided are similar to the ones you find in food stores used for grocery shopping.
Photo: Town of Brookhaven. Allied Physical Group’s newest pediatric office will be in Rocky Point. The group broke ground on construction at 346 Route 25A in Rocky Point on April 6. Allied Physicians Group is an independent provider of high-quality comprehensive family health care services for both children and adults. The new Rocky Point location will be their 24th for Allied on Long Island, bringing the total number of offices in the NY metropolitan area to 34. Supervisor Romaine said, “Allied Physicians Group’s new pediatric practice here in Rocky Point is an important new medical practice in our community. We have a growing number of families with young children in the area and as is the case with children, they need regular checkups as well as medical care. This new office will be convenient for families living here in Rocky Point and the surrounding area.”

A long-abandoned house on Baldwin Road in Sound Beach was finally demolished on December 14 after years of complaints by local residents and numerous Brookhaven Town code violations were issued. “I commend our Law Department for their efforts to remove this zombie house, and many more in the Town of Brookhaven, making our community a better place for the residents who take pride in their homes,” said Councilwoman Jane Bonner, who was on hand for the destruction of the home that day.
