State and local lawmakers, along with union leaders, are calling on the School District of Philadelphia to develop a plan to address environmental hazards – such as asbestos, lead and mold – in its buildings.
City Councilmembers Jim Harrity and Mike Driscoll introduced a resolution on Thursday that would urge the General Assembly to pass legislation to allow Philadelphia to enact its own minimum wage laws. The state has not increased the minimum wage from $7.25 since 2009, and Philly is currently unable to set its own minimum wage.
