Oceanside launched a search this week for candidates for an appointment to a vacant City Council seat by February, in hopes of avoiding a special election that’s almost a year away and could cost $250,000 or more.
“My concern has nothing to do with the price tag,” said Councilman Christopher Rodriguez. “My concern is sitting here for a year without a fully functioning legislative body making decisions.”
The open seat is the result of the election of Esther Sanchez as mayor. That leaves the District 1 council seat she was elected to in 2018 open for the remainder of the four-year term.
