Conversion of listed former College building would 'bring life back' into area of city centre

WORK can begin to turn a listed building in the centre of Bradford into flats after a planning committee approved the proposals yesterday. Members heard that while there were some concerns over the plan to create 190 flats in the Old Building on Great Horton Road, the conversion was likely to be one of the only ways the Grade II listed structure would be brought back into use. The building, which dates back to 1832, was the original home of Bradford College until it became surplus to requirements after the educational institution moved most of its classes into the new build David Hockney Building next door.

Investigation after important feature of historic Keighley mill is destroyed

AN investigation has begun after an important part of a historically significant mill site was destroyed. Low Mill on Gresley Road in Keighley, dates back to 1779, was the first cotton mill to be built in Yorkshire and is one of just two Grade II listed buildings in the town. The mill was powered by water diverted from the River Worth through a series of sluices a goit. But the building has been derelict for decades, and last year it was added to Save Britain’s Heritage’s “At Risk” register of historic and heritage buildings that face an uncertain future.

Glamping site plan for Green Belt field refused by Councillors

The field the glamping site would be based in A PANEL of Councillors has refused plans to create a glamping site in the Green belt between Keighley and Harden. A field at Heather Lodge, Back Shaw Lane, had been proposed as a camping site that would be made up of two glamping pods and two shepherd’s huts, along with a parking area with four car space and a building for use as a shared cooking facility. The application went before Bradford Council s District Planning Panel on Thursday. Members heard that there had been a number of letters of support backing the plans, saying it would boost tourism in the area.

Panel disagrees with planners during debate on 'harmful' extension

The sun room that was built withoput planning permission COUNCILLORS have gone against the recommendation of officers and approved plans for an extension to a nine bedroom house. In September Bradford Council received a retrospective planning application for a first floor extension – in the form of a sunroom, at 4 Farcliffe Road. At a meeting on Thursday, planning officers had advised members of the Bradford District Planning Panel to refuse the application, saying the design of the extension was “harmful” to the building’s appearance. A report to members said: “The design and overall appearance of the extension does not complement or enhance the character and appearance of the host dwelling and given the prominent sitting on the dwelling, is considered an over dominant and incongruous structure to the detriment of visual amenity.”
