gallons of crude oil, gushed into the gulf, after the violent oil rig explosion that killed 11 workers. the victim s relatives took a helicopter to the site to mark the first anniversary. my brother is at the bottom of the gulf of mexico. he shouldn t be there. none of them should be there. reporter: pensacola s beach a year ago, was a disaster, covered in globs of black oil, washing in from the gulf. today, the sugar white sand is back. but business owners need the tourists to come back, too. reporter: gulf coast tourism is a $2 billion industry and is still hit hard. the biggest problem now is convincing tourists to eat local seafood. there s no reason why people shouldn t come back. it s perfect. reporter: but cameron holman is afraid to go in the water. you don t know what kind of long-term effect it s going to have. lingering effects on the oil as the environment tries to rebound from an environmental disaster. reporter: joel brown, wjz eyewitness news.

i m craig melvin. joe krebs is off. it is monday, april 18th. a calm weather day after some severe left some pretty nasty defree and a lot of flooding in some areas as we just heard. very familiar with that marble quarry site. i bike through that area a lot. that is certainly prone to flooding. many low-lying areas are flooded out this morning because of all of that run-off. at the time of high tide, at 9:00 this morning they will see more high water as well. about two feet above normal. high tide about 9:00. here what we ve got just a partly cloudy sky. we have temperatures that are a bit chilly. in fact, down to the low to mid-40s in a few locations to near 50 degrees. it s 52 at reagan national. near the bay in the upper 50s. and in the northern neck of virginia. many weather watchers there reporting temperatures there around 50 degrees. a few sprinkles in pennsylvania overnight. those dissipated. just a few clouds coming through over the jefferson memorial, potomac rive
