Over the past few months, it’s felt as though the LGBTQ community has had to endure a tsunami of new anti-trans laws throughout the country. But thanks to a recent public opinion survey, there’s one thing that every lawmaker who supports such draconian legislation needs to realize: They’re going against the wishes of the vast majority of the American people across the ideological spectrum.

National Guard activated to Philly ahead of verdict in Derek Chauvin trial By FOX 29 staff (Photo by Cory Clark/NurPhoto via Getty Images) PHILADELPHIA - Governor Tom Wolf signed a proclamation of disaster emergency Friday, activating more than 1,000 Pennsylvania National Guard troops to support local officials in Philadelphia ahead of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial. The action was taken at the request of the City of Philadelphia as officials brace for the potential of possible unrest.  This declaration allows the commonwealth to take preemptive steps to ensure the safety of our fellow Pennsylvanians, said Governor Wolf. The activation of the National Guard supports the current efforts in Philadelphia to protect our beloved neighbors and city.

Approach Every Black Artist as a World-Maker : Art Historian Bridget Cooks on the Need for an Expansive Definition of Blackness

In her much-discussed 2011 book, Exhibiting Blackness: African Americans and the American Art Museum, Cooks looked at the ways that museums have perpetuated racial inequity through the presentation and curation of African American and African diaspora artists. Her account started with the very first show in America featuring African American artists, at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1927, and continued into the 21st century with the reception of figures including the Gee’s Bend quilters.
