The partner of a soldier who died at a Far North beach trying to rescue children swept out to sea is heartbroken to learn the tragedy could have been prevented. Wairongoa Renata, 54, better known as Magoo or Tickety-Boo, drowned at Cable Bay in January 2018 after swimming out to help his daughter, then aged 11, and other children in distress in the water.

Coroner Mary-Anne Borrowdale concluded 58-year-old Murray Daley killed his partner 61-year-old Ngaire McKenzie, and then committed suicide at her Waipukurau home in 2017.
The report detailed Daley s controlling and manipulative behaviour and said the death s an example of when danger signs are not seen for what they are.
National Network of Family Violence services chief executive Merran Lawler says the Coroner raises public awareness of red flags.

A coroner s findings have uncovered harrowing details of a man who took his life after strangling his ex-partner with her own necklace and violently killing her dog.
The murder-suicide findings released this week by Coroner Mary-Anne Borrowdale relate to the deaths of Ngaire Ellen McKenzie, 61, and Murray James Daley, 58, at McKenzie s home in Jellicoe St, Waipukurau, on June 3, 2017.
