As India is battling the deadly second wave of coronavirus, Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to the Biden Administration has suggested that the country should immediately lockdown to curb the spread of the pandemic. Fauci made these remarks while talking exclusively to The Indian Express.

According to Fauci, shutting down the country temporarily could open a window, and during these times, authorities can take immediate steps to address issues like lack of oxygen supply, availability of PPE Kits, etc.

Top US epidemiologist Anthony Fauci has suggested a complete lockdown for a few weeks in India as an immediate step to contain the spread of COVID-19 as its deadly second wave shows no signs of ebbing.
Dr Fauci, in an interview to The Indian Express, said another most important thing in the immediate is to get supplies of oxygen, medication, PPEs. He also said looking at the magnitude of the crisis, India should look at putting together a crisis group that would meet and start getting things organised.

The second wave of Covid-19 has brought India again to a standstill once again. With a mounting pressure on healthcare infrastructure and resurgence of the migrant crisis, it appears as if we are back to where we were last year. In the latest visuals coming in from across the India, medical centres are running out of vaccines, states are going back into lockdown and migrants are heading back home fearing loss of livelihoods.
In such a situation, it becomes imperative to ask whether a lockdown is unavoidable. Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, Delhi has imposed a six day lockdown. During the lockdown, all private offices, weekly markets, cinema, educational institutes like schools, colleges and coaching centres will remain closed. Only, essential services will remain functional.
COVID-19 cases rising among students; over 220 tested positive in 24 hrs
Is the COVID-19 pandemic over yet? doesn’t really look so. Fresh Covid-19 cases are showing an alarming upward trend over the past week. In a recent report, more than 220 students tested positive for novel coronavirus all across the country in the last 24 hours.
In Maharashtra’s Wasim district a residential school has confirmed that over 225 students and four school staffers have tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. Following the incident, the school’s premises have been shut down and the area was declared a containment zone.
“The infected students and employees have been quarantined at a government hostel near the city,” an official was quoted as saying.
