ben, what are the scenes you re witnessing now? reporter: well, what we re seeing is that what you re seeing, is the huge crowd in front of the tank here on the cornice chanting various things, aloha, god is great. basically the joy is really overwhelming. now, if we can move our camera over, up the street, what we re seeing up there is that people are basically climbing over the army tanks that have been deployed since the 28th of january in front of state tv, just climbing out, all of them obviously probably going to go to tahrir square, where i think there will be a massive celebration tonight and well into tomorrow morning. as a result of this one line of news that appeared on state tv at almost approximately 6:00 p.m. local time.
is brighter we don t know if it has because we have a ground blizzard now. over here, too, we see a lot of cars, people thought they could get out. even if they had four-wheel drive, and they didn t make it because the drifts along the highway even though we had 11 inches of official snow, we have drifts of three to five feet. over against the embassy suites hotel where we re staying, there s one drift up against a door that looks like six feet, like a miniature model of the top of mt. everest and you see the snow blowing off the cornice that has developed there. the snow is wrapping up but the ground blizzard is going to continue into the evening. transportation officials declared a stat of emergency and said this is not good weather to drive in. those who do get out, as we said, often end up like that and there s just no way for the police or other people to rescue everybody who gets stranded. in fact, we saw tow trucks stuck earlier. this is no time to be out. it is a state of emerg
