you saw the wall street journal s editorial that the president liked yesterday that said the fed should pause on interest rates. you also know the counter offer to that that has been made from a number of conservative economists is that if the fed doesn t keep raising rates they will not have enough ammunition to ease them and fight off a recession when it does come. which camp do you fall in? i think the fed will almost certainly raise rates today, and they should. you don t want to look at the stock market to decide what the fed should do. what you see is a very strong economy, one where in particular household spending is growing at about 3% a year. it s pretty hard to get a recession out of households spending 3% a year. in that environment you want the fed to get interest rates back to normal. interest rates are 0% right now. that s not normal, so a rate hike isn t appropriate.

we re seeing a lot of isis recruitment in northern iraq, in central iraq. that s where you see a lot of fighting still going on. we can t count isis out. iraq is probably not going about this the right way. they re trying to not include the sunis in the government. when you have this baghdad government putting pressure on the sunis, they are driven to recruit to isis. i don t think the presence of american forces is going to stop that. yeah. lieutenant, thanks very much. remember, the president criticized president obama brutally during the campaign for withdrawaling u.s. forces from iraq, which helped lead to isis s rise there. this is a decision with consequences. the reality is different when you are the president. we ll stay on this. so far this morning from
he is someone who knows that lying to the fbi is a crime. this shouldn t be a surprising situation for him when he finds himself in it. but, look, the white house, as they have for months at this point is fighting a political battle. in some ways politically it is their right to do so. impeachment is a political fight that happens in congress and is determined by the votes of first the house and then the senate. so it is really important from the white house s point of view to undercut the mueller investigation at every turn possible, to frame it as overreach, to frame it as the president likes to say, a witch hunt. so that s sort of been their talking points all along, and they are trying to stick with those. talking points, particularly, i think it is worth remembering that flynn himself has become a little bit of a folk hero among trump s base. he was a big hit on the campaign trail. so this is someone who does have a following within trump s orbit for sure. right. and, you know
to make their political case regardless of what happens in court. that s why we saw these protesters outside supporting flynn yesterday as he was coming in. let me get you guys on this because it got buried in all of the headlines of yesterday. but it is important. one of the number of entities related to the president under investigation right now was the trump foundation, the trump charity, and they agreed yesterday to dissolve after this case brought against them by the new york attorney general. they re shutting down the charity. the attorney general called it, quote, a little more than a checkbook to serve mr. trump s business and political interests. in the orbit of trump-related scandals, where does this fall in importance? oh, i mean, look, is it more important than, you know, possibility the president siding with foreign entities to influence the election? i don t know. i think if you are one of the charities that was expecting a check from the foundation and didn t get it
