GoLocalProv | RI Council for Humanities Awards Over $150K to 15 Public Projects & Documentary Films

The Manton Avenue Project (pictured on Facebook) is one of the grant recipients. The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities has announced major grant awards to 15 public projects and documentary films that showcase the power of the humanities to connect communities and strengthen civil society. “This past year has presented so many obstacles to humanities organizations, to scholars, and to artists. Nevertheless, this community has adapted to the pandemic and risen to the challenge to reach people through the humanities, to contend with the past and to be part of a movement for justice. The humanities are showing the way to a renewed civil society. This year’s major project grants promise to do this in bold and creative ways,” said Elizabeth Francis, Executive Director.

Wayne Miller, The Providence Journal © Submitted photos Dr Ranney and Congressman James Langevin at the Inauguration of President Biden. With severe space restrictions in place due to the pandemic and concerns about possible violence, U.S. senators and representatives each received a single ticket for one guest to join them at the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president. Members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation selected guests with meaning to them and to causes. Rep. Jim Langevin invited Dr. Megan L. Ranney, an emergency physician, Brown University associate professor and director of the Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health.
