Karen Peddle has lived in a tent for weeks but brought her tent to Confederation Hill when the housing protest began in St. John's on Monday. Peddle says support from the public has been overwhelming as the protest reaches its sixth day.
As the homeless encampment outside Newfoundland and Labrador's Confederation Building headed into its third day, the population grew slightly and support poured in from the public.
It was a project that went way over budget and lasted years longer than expected. If that sounds familiar, writes John Gushue, it's an indication of how repairs to the seat of government itself are a sore reminder of projects gone awry.

No matter the size of one’s house, it comes as no surprise that high winds can play havoc with Christmas decorations.
As it turns out, the House of Assembly is not immune to the weather, as the giant Christmas tree on Confederation Hill was toppled by a blast of wind over the lunch hour.
Photos forwarded to VOCM News show the large tree lying prone at the foot of the steps leading to the Confederation Building.
Typically a big draw in early December, the traditional tree lighting ceremony was broadcast virtually this year due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
