and terrorist threats and concerns about the president s policy in libya and elsewhere and with hillary clinton the likely democratic front-runner still, foreign policy is front and center. absolutely. there s a couple of reasons why obviously we have the threats going on and improving economy that makes it that. and it s a fact that that s the most glaring omission in this 2016 republican field. there isn t anybody with obvious foreign policy chops. they are all studying. you can tell like sometimes, they are all studying very hard and some of them will leak out, i got briefed by henry kissinger or condy rice. and went to london and said i wouldn t talk, i ll punt on this. they know it s a gap and significant agap. on the other hand you have secretary clinton, very volatile time in the world, plenty of experience. on the other hand the president s foreign policy and therefore her role in the president ses foreign policy
in the last 24 hours after the new york times broke this bombshell store and say the secretary of states have done this forever. condy rice really used e-mail and never once used a personal e-mail. yet when you go back to 2007 one of the hillary clinton s defenders, john podeska, when referring to what was going on in the bush administration, they said he is end of the day it looked like they were trying to avoid the records act by operating official business off the official business. tim:. there he is saying that what the republicans were doing is wrong but now the. dick: are saying everybody does it. jason cha frksfchaffis was part of a news story. according to his business card it s got his gmail address on it. if you wade through the whole story, the last line is that the business card is not paid for by the federal government.
they even put a halt to some of these interrogations because of this very concern. i asked ari fleischer, the former white house spokesman, he was told not to use that term. he said he doesn t remember that, but he does remember being told not to say that the geneva conventions covered the detainees. we are getting more information on what president obama may have known about all of this during those critical years because the suggestion in this report is that he was kept in the dark on a lot of it. right. and you know, his own memoir says he knew everything and the senate report suggests strongly that he was want aware of this. and was kept in the dark until 2006. i talked to former officials in the bush administration and they dispute that. they say that while they didn t brief him personally, they do believe that over a period of time he came to learn a lot of these details because some of his top officials knew. condy rice knew, dick cheney knew and we know that presidents do
again, of course, the president could have asked what those details were at any time and it was my impression based upon hearing various conversations over the next few months and the next few years that in fact, he had some damaknowledge. the level of knowledge i can t comment on. but you knew from the very beginning the specific procedures that were under way. the suggestion is that you and andy card and other white house officials and national security adviser condoleezza rice or george tenet, you were trying to protect the president. is that a fair assessment? well, it s always our job to protect the president and to ensure that the president has the information that he needs to have in order to effectively run this country. again, the president any time can ask for as much detailed information as possible and i can t tell you i had the information. i can t tell you the level of information that he might have, but it was certainly my impression over a period of time listening i
an impeccable hem line. i was trying to give an example, kind of put into the reader s mind what it might have been like if somebody else from the bush administration had been portrayed in the way condoleezza rice was early on. that s what happens. of course, you do see superficial coverage of male politicians, but not to the extent for women and not to the extent it derails the discussion of their ideas and policy initiatives and what they hope to do. well, the fact of the matter is, men and women bring different qualities to any given job. that s a great thing. that should be highlighted. i think we should talk more about that, but are we ever going to get to a point where women don t have to do anything other than just be good at their job to actually prove themself? yeah, i mean, you say men and women do different things. i think one of the most damaging parts of this coverage is that women are not seen as individuals. women are seen as doing women-kind of things.
