school. with us, we have the host of way too early and white house bureau chief at politico, jonathan lemire. special correspondent for bbc news, katty kay. and special contributor mike barnicle. we begin this morning with the questions about the police response to the shooting in uvalde. some of the key details provided by texas officials in the first 48 hours after the attack have turned out to be inaccurate. here is what has changed. texas officials first said the attacker exchanged gunfire with a school resource officer before entering the school. then later said the school resource officer engaged with the attacker but did not exchange gunfire. well, yesterday, officials now said, in fact, there was no school resource officer there at all, and the killer walked into the school through an unlocked door, unobstructed, and began firing. the amount of time the gunman spent outside before entering the school also has changed. we initially were told after he shot his gra
uvalde, texas, community. there s no details here about the police response at robb elementary. police called and waited for back-up and tactical teams. those teams didn t arrive until an hour later. we re now hearing from the shooter s family. our correspondent spoke to the gunman s grandfather about the tragedy. [speaking foreign language] tragedy. [speaking foreign language the shooter s grandfather sending blessings to the family and facts. he also criticized the gun laws that allowed his grandson at 18 to get a gun. we re also hearing from survivors, including the lengths one little girl went to. she had a friend next to her that she was pretty sure was already dead and laying on the ground bleeding out. she put her hands in her friend s blood and then smeared it, she said, all over her body. she wanted to look like she was dead. she was scared the gunman was going to come back through that adjoining door back to the classroom and she wanted to be able to play dead.

suspect s vehicle. vicki and casey white fled, the pursuit ended with the crash you see there. the sheriff s office says vicki white sustained self-inflicted gun gunshot wounds. marshal, law enforcement saying the u.s. marshals task force intercepts the couple, actually collided with them to end the pursuit. can you talk about just how this search ended? yes, we developed information these suspects were in the area, and they were possibly staying at a local hotel. surveillance was establish on that facility. a short time later, vicki white came out of the hotel. she was wearing a wig. the two suspects got into a vehicle. the rolling surveillance continued. we asked for cystness and a short time lied later, there was a a chase, a vehicle chase and the suspect wrecked the car, rolled over. and we approached the vehicle to get the two suspect the out. we got casey white out. he immediately announced that his wife shot herself in the head and that he didn t do it. marshal,
