Mankato Public Safety devices could help save more lives

City of Mankato Public Safety now owns two LUCAS Chest Compression Systems, portable devices that consistently administer chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. When used, the device is snapped into position over a person laying on a backboard and a suction cup is placed on the chest. The suction cup then moves up and down to perform compressions at a steady rate of 102 compressions per minute. Meanwhile, rescuers can monitor vitals and perform other life-saving measures. The devices, which cost about $15,000 each, were obtained through CARES Act Funds and a contribution provided by Mayo Clinic Health System.
