Lamitan City to build own airport

Map of Lamitan City (Google map) ZAMBOANGA CITY - The city government of Lamitan is embarking on an ambitious airport project to boost its development as well as that of Basilan province. Mayor Roderick Furigay said Saturday they have started the acquisition of land in the area where the airport will be constructed. Furigay said the lots they have acquired are in the Barangays of Calugusan, Balas, Boahan, and Ubit, which were identified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) as the ideal site for the airport. "As far as purchasing of the land is concerned, we are now at 30 percent. We need to acquire not less than 100 hectares of land for the airport project," Furigay said in an interview. "We have already acquired 30 hectares of land," he added. The city government has allocated PHP30 million while the provincial government added PHP20 million for the acquisition of land alone. He said the airport they envision would have a two-kilometer runway.

DAR distributes land titles to CamSur, Sorsogon farmers

(Courtesy of DAR-Bicol Facebook) LEGAZPI CITY - A total of 215 farmer-beneficiaries in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) recently received their certificate of land ownership award (CLOA) and computerized land titles (C-titles). Gerard Buensalida, Department of Agrarian Reform-Bicol (DAR-5) spokesperson, said in an interview on Monday the distribution benefited landless farmers from five towns in both provinces, covering 344.895 hectares of agricultural land. "In the province of Sorsogon, seven farmer-beneficiaries from Juban town were given their C-titles covering 18.9407 hectares of land while 64 agrarian reform beneficiaries received their CLOA with a total land area of 68.0892 hectares in Ocampo, Camarines Sur," Buensalida said. Another 67 beneficiaries from Bangon, Lupi in Camarines Sur received land titles that covered 89 hectares, while 77 received their CLOA and C-titles covering 168.8396 hectares in Camaroan and Garchit
