Organizers announce the 28th Burlington Paint A Thon

Burlington, Ia- After being forced to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Burlington Paint a Thon is back on for 2021. At a conference Friday, June 11th, 2021, event organizers made the announcement that the event will take place this year the week of September 6th. Burlington Mayor Jon Billups started off the conference by stating what the return of the Paint A Thon means to Burlington. "As mayor and as a citizen, I was thrilled to hear about it," Billups Said. "The impact that the Paint a Thon has had on our community, it's not just the paint, volunteers seem to help and repair homes and fix the exteriors it makes the whole community feel more pride about their homes" Two Rivers Bank and Trust president Shane Zimmerman expressed the need for volunteers for this year's event. AJ Taylor4 hours agoLast Updated: May 11, 2021 The Iowa Community Action Partnership (ICAP) received $236,000 from Amerigroup Iowa to support homelessness prevention and housing stability. Eleven Iowa Community Action Agencies will receive funds to provide immediate financial resources to households in eighteen counties across the state. Community members receiving support services and resources are part of Amerigroup’s integrated case management program and lack financial resources to attain or maintain safe and stable housing. “Amerigroup Iowa is driven by a passion for making a positive difference and we deeply understand our communities’ health, social, and environmental needs,” said Jeffrey Jones, plan president, Amerigroup Iowa. “We continue to work with local organizations like ICAP to provide support services that address homelessness and improve overall health.”

Homes for the Holidays event provides beds for those in need The Hawk Eye Thanks to the efforts of four community organizations and a furniture store, children and adults throughout Des Moines County are getting a better night s sleep this Christmas Eve, helping Santa to better make his deliveries unseen. Through Slumberland Furniture s Homes for the Holidays event and in collaboration with Burlington Building Bridges, Community Action of Southeast Iowa, the Domestic Violence Intervention Program and Young House Community Services 14 beds were donated Monday to Des Moines County families in need.  The need for beds in Burlington is really big, said Mona Ash, director of Burlington Building Bridges, which works with more than 75 southeast Iowa individuals and families to help them overcome the many obstacles put in place by poverty.
