NATIONAL Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds is concerned about the killing of eight people including two women on Wednesday, in response to another murder and the issue was discussed at a Cabinet level on Thursday.
Responding to questions on Thursday at the post-Cabinet media briefing, Communications Minister Symon de Nobriga said the issue was raised in Cabinet among other things.
Asked what the Government’s response was, de Nobriga said: “Matters of national security are always discussed at Cabinet. The Minister of National Security obviously is concerned, however, the management of that is in the more-than-adequate hands of the Commissioner of Police. We expect that the police will continue to do the job that they are doing.”
Condolence books opened for Franklin Khan

A condolence book has been opened at the Red House for members of the public who wish to pay their last respects to Energy Minister Franklin,63, who died last Saturday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Parliament announced that a condolence book has opened in the Rotunda of the Red House, between 8 am and 6 pm, from Monday to Friday until further notice. People are advised to enter the Red House through its Abercromby Street entrance and observe all covid19 protocols.
The Energy Ministry set up a virtual condolences book for Khan at its website www.energy.gov.tt on Saturday.

Eight months into its second term, the People’s National Movement (PNM) Government has suffered a major blow with the passing of former party chairman and Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Franklin Khan.
Khan, 63, who had a history of heart-related illness, died at his Maraval home early on Saturday, Communications Minister Symon De Nobriga confirmed in a statement.
“It is with a deep sense of sadness that we announce the death of Minister of Energy and Energy industries the Hon Franklin Khan. Minister Khan passed away peacefully at home early this morning (Saturday),” he said.

LEADER of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar led her MPs to boycott of Friday’s sitting of the House of Representatives over fears of covid19 following the Prime Minister’s recent positive diagnosis, and fears that MPs could become super-spreaders of the virus. However, House Leader Camille Robinson-Regis accused the Opposition of playing politics as she claimed parliamentary protocols in the pandemic meant MPs faced very little risk of infection.
