Deming: Why five tops three, but it won t be easy

Deming: Why five tops three, but it won t be easy Dan Deming Reno County Commissioners are again looking at expanding to five rather than three members. That s good news for those believing in better government, more ideas and improved representation. Getting that question passed by voters may take more time, however, than voting this November. Placing the proposition on the 2022 general election ballot, when far more voters go to the polls, is probably a better idea. It would give more opportunity for a thorough study of the challenging re-alignment of commission districts to meet state law standards and selling merits to a skeptical electorate.

Governor s mask mandate back on Reno County Commission agenda

It was unclear if the commission will take public comment on the issue. Also on Tuesday’s agenda, as the meeting’s final business item, are the proposed regulations on commercial wind systems. No public comment is expected on that item since the commission heard an hour of debate two weeks ago. Commission Chairman Ron Hirst asked that the mask issue be placed on Tuesday’s agenda, said County Administrator Randy Partington. Hirst was also the one who had it placed on the commission agenda on Dec. 22, when, after 90 minutes of public comment, the commission allowed the restriction to stand. At that time, however, Hirst indicated he’d bring it up again in the future.
