With COVID-19 transmission having decreased greatly in Kandiyohi County, the County Board unanimously voted at Tuesday’s meeting to end the county building mask mandate. Currently, Kandiyohi County has approximately 70 active cases of COVID-19, down from a tally of more than 500 in mid-January.
The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners signed a letter in support of the extension of the Glacial Lakes Trail from Sibley State Park to New London. The project has reached its last phase, but requires an influx of cash. Partners are requesting $4.75 million from the state bonding bill to finish the work, and asked commissioners for the letter of support.
While the drought this summer might have had an impact on milkweed growth, Kandiyohi County has marked the completion of its first year in a new monarch butterfly habitat projection program. The goal is to help the state's butterfly population rebound while also allowing public works projects to move forward with fewer restrictions.
A broadband expansion project along 30th Avenue Northwest in Dovre Township was granted $56,000 from Kandiyohi County's American Rescue Plan Act allotment. The county commissioners approved the funding at the Dec. 21 meeting.
The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners approved the 2022 tax levy and budget following a public hearing on Thursday. The levy is set to increase by 1.5% over this year’s levy, helping to fund needed staff in various county departments.
