Posted: Mar 5, 2021 8:54 PM Posted By: Kirk Tupaj The Herkimer County Sheriff is in the final stages before opening up the new Correctional Facility. The State Commission of Corrections will still have to approve all the new policies and procedures at the jail before granting them a certificate of occupancy. The Sheriff is hoping to open the jail between the third and fourth week of April. Every corrections officer that works in the jail must be trained to perform any work throughout the facility. Herkimer County Sheriff Scott Scherer spoke about what has to be done before opening the jail.

We went through water main break issues, generator issues, boiler issues, heat exchange issues, the footprint of the facility, windows, mold, just ….there’s a lot of issues with our old facility.
