PNW Researchers Awarded $1M Grant for Advanced Ag Tech

A team of Purdue University Northwest (PNW) College of Technology researchers has been awarded a total of more than $1 million in federal and private funding to develop and test advanced agriculture technology (agTech) solutions. The project will be based in a greenhouse under development at the Digital Crossroad Data Center in Hammond, IN. PNW will receive $726,389 through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Scaling Pandemic Resilience Through Innovation and Technology (SPRINT) Challenge. The university is one of 44 awardees of these grants from a pool of 238 applicants nationwide. The funds were awarded to Project TRAVERSE: agTech Robotics, Automation and Virtually Employed Resiliently Scaling Enterprises. NMTI to receive $10.3M grant from US Commerce

WASHINGTON (U.S. Department of Commerce) — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $10.3 million grant to Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, to support workforce education and training through the construction of a new facility to house the school’s trades program. This EDA grant is expected to create 410 jobs, retain 385 jobs, and generate $2 million in private investment. “EDA is pleased to support Northern Marianas Tech’s construction of its new workforce career training facility,” said Dennis Alvord, acting assistant secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. “This project will help the Northern Mariana Islands respond to the economic impact of Super Typhoon Yutu by boosting training opportunities for citizens looking to compete for high-skill, high-wage jobs.”

WASHINGTON (U.S. Department of Commerce) — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration  is awarding a $13.2 million grant to Northern Marianas College to increase its capacity to support regional economic development. This EDA grant is expected to help create 272 jobs and generate $13.5 million in private investment. “The 2018 impact of Super Typhoon Yutu on Saipan caused extensive damage to the island’s infrastructure,” said Dennis Alvord, acting assistant secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. “This investment will support the Commonwealth’s ongoing recovery by providing resources to develop new capacity in industries that will contribute to its economic resilience.”
