At the beginning of February, a large box from Germany arrived at my home in Brooklyn. Inside I found a futuristic, quilted polyester hooded jacket in pure white. “That would go really well at a winter rave,” my husband said when I slipped it over my head. With its sharp angles and preponderance of straps, it looked like something issued to the residents of a colony on Mars to wear on their weekends off from working the potato greenhouse.
This was the Terrex Futurecraft.Loop Anorak by Adidas, a prototype of a performance jacket that the brand says will be released in 2022. Like the Futurecraft.Loop sneaker before it, the anorak is both made of recycled material and is expressly designed to be sent back to Adidas at the end of its life for recycling. Or in my case, the end of six weeks of testing.

It was in September 2017 when Apple made IKEA a launch partner for its ARKit in the iOS 11 keynote, and all of a sudden the staunchly analog furniture brand was at the vanguard of retail tech. The IKEA Place app let you put digital furniture anywhere.

Quin Werthauer was enjoying a cup of coffee in his kitchen when he heard the news. “Oh, shit,” he thought as he read the email on his phone. “They finally did it.”
For the last decade, Werthauer has run a repair store for Logitech Harmony remotes out of his home on Long Island. A client had sent him word that the company was giving up on the product line, and that it would no longer manufacture what had become the gold standard in remote controls. It would sell off whatever stock remained, and keep adding to its sprawling database of supported devices. But otherwise, kaput. Powered off. Sent to that big charging cradle in the sky.

It s both optimistic and idealistic to believe that when we get sick and need help, our friends and family will rally, pitch in, and lend a hand.
