from msnbc world headquarters to new york. welcome everyone to alex witt reports. developing this hour. the fallout grows on the fbi search in mar-a-lago. as we wait to see if donald trump s legal team filed a motion for a special master to review the evidence seized the department of justice is nearing a major deadline to propose redactions for the affidavit season that search. earlier today, house intelligence committee chair adam schiff spoke on winning the balance of the public s right to know versus the government s concerns. i think the question is, at one point in time does the public get to see that affidavit? i think the justice department makes a powerful case that at the early stage of the investigation, when it could jeopardize the pursuit of justice, this is not the time to be giving essentially the trump lawyers a roadmap into how to intimidate witnesses or how to derail illegitimate investigation. this all comes as a new nbc news poll out today shows americ
when former president trump had in his possessions, we have to start wondering is mar-a-lago just the beginning. late is the day, u.s. district judge aileen cannon moved to unseal inventory of all items recovered during the fbi search of trump s palm beach resort. we now know that federal agents found over ten dozen governments documents and photographs without classification markings. they were strewn across mar-a-lago, allegedly stashed and boxes alongside newspaper clippings, magazines, random articles of all kinds of things, including clothing, white house shot skis and who knows what else. fbi agents also recovered 45 empty folders that were marked classified, along with another 42 empty folders labeled return to staff secretary, military aid. all of that from mar-a-lago. who knows where the classified material is now? we don t know. perhaps, they are sitting under a pile of five irons in bedminster or lodged between couch cushions in a trump tower penthouse summer. th
we begin our coverage this hour with a detailed new look at materials seized from mar-a-lago. the unsealed inventory reveals more than 48 empty folders with classification banners. it also finds personal items like clippings and clothing mixed in with sensitive documents. sara murray is joining us with more on this. sara, we re learning a lot of new information in this filing. that s right. the justice department acknowledges normally we would not get a glimpse into these kind of materials, but this is no ordinary case. these are extraordinary circumstances involving the former president. reporter: a newly unsealed inventory revealing the trove of materials seized from mar-a-lago, including thousands of government documents and 103 papers marked classified intermingled with magazines, newspapers, press clippings, photos, and articles of clothing. mostly the boxes are pictures and newspapers and shirts and gear and, you know, golf balls. just it s a lot of stuff. you k
attested to the fbi that all the records that he had were being kept in a storage room in mar-a-lago. now ourably the most alarming detail in this newly released inventory list. a box found in his office contains, quote, 43 empty folders with classified banners raising big questions about what happened to the classified documents that were at one time inside those folders. in a notice filed with the inventory the justice department says it has already reviewed every item. they add this, quote, all evidence pertaining to the seized items including, but not limited to the nature and manner in which they were stored as well as any evidence with respect to particular documents or items of interest will inform the government s investigation. another key focus today of the investigation how these records which include more than 10,000 non-classified government documents ended up at mar-a-lago, and why these particular records were kept by trump. some of them for more than a year an
