DENVER (Legal Newsline) - A Colorado law providing immunity to police officers against most tort lawsuits may protect an officer who switched on his flashing lights and siren five seconds before T-boning a van in a highway intersection, killing the two men inside.
A Colorado jury has awarded $30 million to Steven Straughen, an oilfield worker who was severely injured when a fracking tank exploded in Weld County four years ago.
Steven Straughen will be unable to collect the full amount of the federal court verdict because state law limits how much companies are required to pay in damages when they lose lawsuits.
