Tarleton s Tarpley honored at NACTA Conference

STEPHENVILLE Tarleton State University’s Dr. Rudy Tarpley was honored Thursday at the annual conference of North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture with the organization’s Educator Award.
Tarpley, the Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, has been part of the Tarleton faculty since 2010.
“Being recognized at the national level is a great honor,” he said. “However, the best reward we receive as professional educators is to make a positive difference in the lives of our students.”
Tarpley received his bachelor of science in agriculture and extension education in 1985 from New Mexico State University, his master’s in 1991 from Mississippi State University and a PhD in education with a major in agricultural education and experimental statistics from Mississippi State in 1993.

Ray Birmingham has spent 43 years building baseball programs in New Mexico. He’s decided that’s long enough.
The University of New Mexico’s 14-year coach made it official Sunday that he’ll retire at the end of this season. UNM announced Birmingham’s decision both on social media and on its athletic website. A media conference is scheduled for Monday at Santa Ana Star Field.
Birmingham has posted a 406-320-4 record with the Lobos and led them to five NCAA Regionals appearances, four Mountain West regular-season championships and three conference tournament titles. Prior to Birmingham’s arrival, UNM’s lone NCAA appearance was in 1962.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Ray Birmingham, the winningest baseball coach in the state of New Mexico, is retiring after 14 seasons and 406 wins with the Lobo baseball team at the conclusion of the Spring 2021 season, closing out a 43-year career.
