Balfour Beatty lands £52m HS2 contract
Balfour Beatty has landed a £52m contract for HS2’s phase 2a.
The contractor has won the early environmental works contract for the route between Birmingham and Crewe – the first to be signed since parliament approved the leg in February.
Works involve creating new woods as wetlands as part of the megaproject’s environmental mitigation efforts.
HS2 phase 2a delivery director Colette Carroll said the award shows the project is bringing the benefits of HS2 to the North earlier than originally planned.
Balfour Beatty UK Construction Services CEO Mark Bullock added: “Balfour Beatty’s contract with HS2 builds on our ‘Building New Futures’ strategy through which we’re committed to leaving a lasting positive legacy for the communities in which we operate.
