Santa Cruz advanced two local talents, Autumn Hays and Esme Brigham, into the Round of 16 in the women's draw on Day 2 of the World Surf League's 2023 Cold Water Classic at iconic Steamer Lane on Thursday.
The threat of an approaching storm didn't dampen action on the opening day of the 2023 O'Neill Cold Water Classic at iconic Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz on Wednesday.
"The competition window is open through Sunday at Steamer Lane where big waves often show up and where generations of local surfers have honed their skills, taking some to surf spots and contests around the globe," writes the Editorial Board. "The contest, which returned last season after a hiatus of seven years, is part of the World Surf League North America Qualifying Series and includes men’s and women’s competitions."
Some of the best surfers in the world, including another strong local contingent, will take on iconic surf break Steamer Lane in the 2023 O’Neill Cold Water Classic. The competition window begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
