he is going to get burned. this is another one of his tactics that is backfiring on him. just to be clear, it sounds like the lieutenant governor had to backtrack those comments that you referenced saying it was a general discussion about illegal immigration, not targeted at cuban migrants that are not fleeing a regime. the fact that they are in this position now where they have to clarify which immigrants they are seeking to punish in a political ploy seems like bad politics. you are calling on attorney general merrick garland to get involved. what would you like to see the doj do here? you know, i think that from the immigration lawyers previously, there is a lot of federal laws that are in place. whether it is human trafficking, whether it is rico, whether it is smuggling, or kidnapping, this is an opportunity for the department of justice to take a real heavy look. because no one is above the law. not ron desantis, not greg abbott, and certainly not donald trump. so for them to
again to exempt the roughly 100,000 classified documents seized from mar-a-lago from the special master s review. so that does not exactly come as a surprise. and it should be an easy case for the doj. the law on who owns presidential records and executive privilege is on the doj s side. nonetheless, the doj has an uphill battle here. there are 11 active judges on the 11th circuit court of appeals. trump appointed six of those judges. but at this point, who knows? anything could happen. for more on this breaking news i want to bring in by phone, neil katyal, former solicitor general during the obama administration. and that role, neil approved and took charge of all of the government s appeals. neil, thank you for joining on such short nor this. your reaction to this it is not a full appeal, it is the request for a stay. what is a meaningful difference, there is there, when and where in the game are we?
democrats. what is your major takeaway? and considering your experience, how did democrats seize the moment? i mean, frankly, chris, democrat need to seize this moment, because we re not going to get another bite at this apple, right? what we see right now is that we have a very radicalized supreme court, that does not recognize precedent. and democrats can t just tell people to go and vote. they need to tell us what kind of numbers they need in order to codify roe into law. we knew for the past 50 years that republicans have been organizing in plain sight. so there had to have been a strategy in place to protect women. so we have a handful of months to organize and activate people. it s not just about showing up to the polls but where we need people at the state, local, and federal level. on the other side of the coin, this could be tricky for republicans. politico compared it to the dog
the conversation. what s your take? listen, folks on the ground have been trying to sound alarm, the people in this country really didn t believe that. and that s because it is unprecedented to think that we re gonna go back 50 years. that we re gonna go back decades into our rights in our country, now we re seeing mitch mcconnell leading into, kevin mccarthy lean into it, they re saying that they want to ban abortion, they re hopeful that the draft leaked opinion becomes the law of the land. it just feels chilling and i know there are a lot of people that are maybe looking forward to this week because the senate said they re gonna hold avoid this week trying to codify roe into law. i am someone that believes that this is more of a showboat because they re not the votes there to pass the bell, so the bills in a fail. let s play with democratic senator amy
middle? is there a compromise somewhere? listen, you know what? this is a fundamental constitutional right that women in america have had for 49 years. whereas a lot of conversation about the pandemic and the disproportionate impact it s had on women particularly women with fewer resources. we want to support women. you don t start by taking agency away from making their own health care decisions. this is something that shouldn t be up to politicians that shouldn t be up to judges frank ly. it should be squarely a woman s determination with advice from fighting for. democrats what. to codify roe into law. they probably don t have the votes in the senate or to end the filibuster. quite frankly, they re stuck. there are republicans that want to see a nationwide ban on abortion. could that happen if republicans regain congress and the
