Conservation officers remind public to leave fawns, other young animals alone

Written By: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources | 5:12 pm, Jun. 15, 2021 × District 5 Eveleth area Conservation Officer Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports having a busy week checking anglers and recreational boating activity on Rainy Lake. Time was spent working ATV complaints in the area along with answering questions regarding the special regulations for walleyes on Rainy Lake. Enforcement action taken this week was for possessing multiple illegal-length walleyes on Rainy Lake. Simonson urges people to take a look at the regulations book before heading out fishing and to call if you have questions about something specific that you can’t find.

Outdoornews June 3, 2021 District 1 – Baudette area CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked anglers on Lake of the Woods and the Roseau River. Angling success has been fair on both the lake and river. Illegal-length walleyes encountered on Lake of the Woods. CO Aaron Larson (Baudette) worked primarily angling enforcement on Lake of the Woods. Time was also spent at Zippel Bay State Park enforcing park rules. CO Ryan Brown (Karlstad) reports fishing on Lake Bronson continues to be slow. Brown presented to a third-grade class in Thief River Falls about Minnesota mammals with CO Woinarowicz. CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls) investigated a wildfire and monitored area angling activity. Enforcement action for the week included burning without the required permit, no helmet on juveniles on ATVs, unregistered ATV, no ATV safety training and an open alcohol container on an ATV on a public roadway.

Outdoornews May 20, 2021 District 1 – Baudette area CO Ben Huener (Roseau) investigated an arson fire and checked anglers during the opening weekend of fishing. Enforcement action was taken for burning without a burn permit, angling with extra lines, angling without a license, and operating an unregistered, motorized kayak. CO Aaron Larson (Baudette) worked primarily angling enforcement. Larson spent time on the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods. Violations found included no angling license in possession, failure to have a throwable flotation device on a boat, illegal bait, and angling with an extra line. CO Corey Sura (Baudette) attended the annual Lake of the Woods meeting involving various area agencies, resorts, and the tourism bureau. Sura also assisted with an ATV safety class in Roseau and issued nuisance-beaver permits. 

Minnesota conservation officers busy with off-road vehicle enforcement

Written By: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources | 9:41 am, May 5, 2021 × District 5 Eveleth area Conservation Officer Darrin Kittelson (International Falls 1) reports another very busy week and weekend monitoring sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River. Fishing, boat and water safety, and invasive species enforcement were the main focuses of the contacts. Enforcement action for the past week included no angling license in possession, failure to display watercraft registration and failure to validate a sturgeon tag. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports working the Rainy River throughout the past week checking sturgeon anglers. He also monitored beaver-trapping activity.
