biden s text messages are being allowed in. cnn s marshall cohen has the latest good morning well, tomorrow is going to be a historic de for the united states. hunter biden, the son of president joe biden, will stand trial in delaware on federal gun charges. this is the very first time in our nation s history that the son of a sitting president will go on trial obviously, a huge moment for the white house, for the biden family and for special counsel, david weiss, who brought the case. he has been investigating hunter biden for over five years and this is the very first time that his charges will be tested in federal court. the charges here revolve around a gun that hunter biden bought in 2018. he s accused of lying on federal firearm forms when he bought the gun, checking a box that said he was not a user of or addicted to
certain questions to elicit bias certainly those questions will center around whether or not people could be fair and reasonable, objective, and impartial, whether they believe this to be smacking of politics, whether they can move politic to the side, whatever they may be not asking them specifically what sayyed there on. but the essence of any question that s developed and presented entered to the jury. victor s to discern whether or not someone s inclinations would prevent them would preclude them from sitting on this jury. the big question for me really, we could get into his why we re here. i mean, the reality is is that it s a shame that there is this sort of political weaponization. you re dealing with paste that a year ago, a year ago, he was offered a plea on the misdemeanor charges that marshall spoke to coming into this, right? we just heard the piece there and that s in california and the plea was a misdemeanor to that. and diversion program as to the charges you and is spe
tomorrow morning becomes the first adult child of a sitting president to stand trial. he is due in a delaware courtroom to face federal gun charges which could potentially land him in jail. cnn s marshall cohen is covering mistrial. so marshall tell us what we should expect tomorrow and beyond in this trial? hey, alice and good afternoon. it all kicks off tomorrow morning in wilmington, delaware. that s where hunter biden has been indicted on three felony gun charges. it all goes back to a gun that he purchased in 2018, a revolver that he had in his possession for about a week-and-a-half. he is charged with three felonies. the first two are for allegedly lying on federal gun form when he bought the gun. the third charge is for allegedly possessing it unlawfully. it all relates to the fact that at the time, according to prosecutors, he was addicted to crack cocaine. he was because addicted to drugs and it s against federal law for a drug user or a drug addict to buy a
if there are text messages from hunter biden himself on his laptop or if his x s testified that yes. he was a drug addict or using drugs during this time. is that an open and shut case it is very strong prosecution case, unlike marshall said, we have a hunter biden s own admissions in his memoir, those text messages on his laptops and the testimony of course, of his ex-wife girlfriend, and mother of his child, this is going to be very difficult. i think the defense here is not necessarily in the trial court. they re looking at the court of appeals. they re trying to get that original plea agreement enforced. many thought it was a sweetheart deal. it was a great deal for hunter biden that felon in the diversion and those misdemeanor charges i think they regret blowing up that deal. they re going to try to get an enforced if hunter biden is convicted and they re also going to challenge the constitutionality of this very statue the irony is there s some conservative judges, particular
