FARMINGTON Franklin County commissioners want to talk to representatives of fire departments, the Sheriff’s Office, 911 and search and rescue operations to determine if specialized aerial digital photos of the entire county would be useful.
The cost to the county and unorganized territory is a combined $40,382 for 18-inch pixel resolution with four-band imagery.
The state GeoLibrary would pay two-thirds of the total cost of $121,122, which is about $80,740, according to information provided by Claire Kiedrowski, executive director of Maine Library of Geographic Information. She gave county commissioners a presentation Tuesday via teleconference. There are only two seasons left in the five-year project, she said.

FARMINGTON For the second consecutive year, the Franklin County Commissioners will not receive mileage reimbursement in 2021.
Commissioners voted 3-0 on Tuesday not to be reimbursed for mileage related to county matters.
Until 2019, commissioners were reimbursed for their mileage.
Tuesday marked Commissioner Lance Harvell of Farmington’s first meeting in an official capacity. He succeeds Charles Webster of Farmington, who did not seek reelection.

FARMINGTON Franklin County road supervisor Mike Pond of Strong advised commissioners Tuesday that when he took the job he was told it would be about eight hours a week.
He is lucky, he said, if it is just eight hours a day with the work needed on bridges and roads in the unorganized territory. His salary was set at $10,000 a year plus mileage when he was hired.

Pond told commissioners mats were installed in November as a temporary bridge top over a deteriorating span on the dead-end Calvin Gray Road in Madrid Township. A new precast bridge is being made and will be installed next spring.

FARMINGTON Franklin County commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to again table proposed state legislation to change the law governing the county’s budget approval process.
As it stands, commissioners decide on a budget, send it to the budget panel for decisions and return it to commissioners. All three commissioners must approve any changes to the committee’s proposal and send it back to the committee. Six of the nine committee members must vote to override any changes by commissioners.
