Midwest Radio - Underground option to be pursued by Eirgrid for the North Connacht 110kV power line

Underground option to be pursued by Eirgrid for the North Connacht 110kV power line   Eirgrid appears to be pursuing an underground option for its planned North Connacht 110kV power line. The proposed power line will run from Ballina to Ballaghaderreen, and has been designed to cater for increased renewable energy capacity in the region into the future, and will also secure the power supply into the north Mayo region. Extensive public consultation has been carried out in relation to the route proposals for the project which consisted of seven options – four overhead line designs, and three underground cable options. There has been widespread opposition to the overhead line proposals in particular, in the Attymass area where a local opposition group was established highlighting concerns over the impact of overhead lines held up on large mast structures on the local environment.

Midwest Radio - Safety scheme brought forward at notorious accident black spot in North Mayo

Midwest Radio - LCSS proposed to tackle traffic congestion at a Ballina national school

LCSS proposed to tackle traffic congestion at a Ballina national school Published: Saturday, 13 February 2021 12:39 A low cost safety scheme will look to tackle congestion problems at Breaffy National School in Ballina. That’s according to local councillor John O’Hara who raised the issue at a recent Municipal District meeting. The cllr says that congestion on route to the school from the Bonniconlon/Ardnaree road was bad before the pandemic, but this has worsened with fewer pupils using the bus service. Even before the outbreak of Covid-19 school goers and Ballina commuters could be held in traffic at the location for up to 30 minutes.
