Evidence to be gathered in Pembrokeshire before second homes tax review

Cabinet member for finance Cll Bob Kilmister at Monday, April 19 meeting Evidence about second home ownership in Pembrokeshire is to be gathered before a public consultation on upping council tax premiums is launched. There has been a push to increase the premium on second homes – currently 50 per cent – to reduce the impact on communities across the county as house and rent prices continue to rise and price locals out of the area. Cabinet member for housing Cllr Michelle Bateman said on Monday (April 19) said there was a “housing crisis” with around 1,000 people joining the council waiting list in the last year, combined with increasing rents and unaffordable house prices.

Tenby's Brynhir development is 'local housing for local people'

The 144-property Brynhir development is set to feature a mixture of houses and flats, 34 of which will be sold on the open market RUMOURS that properties in an upcoming Pembrokeshire County Council housing development will be sold off to the rich as soon as they are built have been quashed by councillors. The 144-property site at Brynhir on the outskirts of Tenby will feature 102 social housing homes, a further eight in shared ownership and 34 available to buy on the open market. Tenby Town councillors said it was important to refute rumours that the social housing properties would be ‘sold off to the rich’ immediately after being built.

Pembrokeshire council rent 'inequalities' highlighted

Councillor Mike Stoddart Council house rent rises have been approved but “inequality” in what people pay compared to others has been highlighted again by a Milford councillor. Cllr Mike Stoddart, Hakin, said that rent inequality was inherited – but not addressed – with some council tenants paying the target rent set by Welsh Government while others remained on much lower rates. An increase of 1.5 per cent on all council rents was approved by full council on Thursday (March 4) which would mean the “inequalities get larger and larger” said Cllr Stoddart, as fixed increases would be higher for those already on higher rents.

Pembrokeshire Council tax up by 3.5 per cent - £43 per year for Band D

Council tax in Pembrokeshire is going up by 3.75 per cent Council tax in Pembrokeshire will rise by 3.75 per cent – £43 a year on a band D property – following a vote of full council. Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet had revised its recommendation of a five per cent rise to a 3.75 per cent increase following consultation and scrutiny committee discussions. On Thursday (March 4) full council voted through budget proposals for 2021-22 which includes a funding gap of £11.9million. The council tax rise will cost residents in Band D properties £1,189.69 a year, an increase of 82p a week. Cllr Jamie Adams put forward an amendment to implement a three per cent increase saying the administration had failed to deliver on transformation savings and the need to recognise the position many residents are in due to covid.
