Auchmountain Glen has been recognised by the Scottish Walking Awards. A volunteer-led project has provided significant improvements for walkers, including new walkways at the glen off Kilmacolm Road. Councillor Michael McCormick, who chairs the environment and regeneration committee and attends the Auchmountain group’s meetings, said: “I am over the moon that the group has been recognised for all the work they have been doing over the last seven years, in all seasons, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Auchmountain Glen is an example of what can be achieved when the community, local authority and most importantly hard-working volunteers work together with a common goal.”

We will embrace change : Labour leader on very challenging elections The Labour leader has pledged to embrace the change after a very challenging election day. Andy McCormick had been expecting his party to win 18 of the new 54-member authority, but after all votes were counted, won only 10. This included a shock result in Brookvale & Kings Furlong, where two Conservatives won for the first time since 1983, and in the new ward of Winklebury & Manydown. They had been hoping to do well in both areas, but picked up just one out of three councillors in each ward. There was also trouble in Brighton Hill, which saw his party colleague Kim Taylor fail in her bid to be re-elected, a result which had him worried that he had lost his seat.

Premature to call for Keir Starmer to resign, says Basingstoke Labour leader It is too early to call for the leader of the Labour party to resign, according to Basingstoke s Labour leader. Andy McCormick says that improvement needs to happen quickly , but that calling for Sir Keir Starmer to resign would be premature . He added that the national Labour party had to get a grip . There have been calls from the Jeremy Corbyn-supporting Momentum campaign for the Labour leader to stand down after the party lost a parliamentary by-election in Hartlepool this morning. It s the first time there has been a Conservative MP there since the 1960s.
