Market traders told there are no plans to 'move the bulldozers in' under new Heywood town centre masterplan

MARKET traders in Heywood have been reassured the council has no plans to ‘move the bulldozers in’ under a new masterplan for the town centre. The document, which will shortly go out to public consultation, is aimed at making ‘Heywood a characterful and attractive town for the local community and city region’. Its ambitions include providing ‘more comfort for pedestrians in the town centre and creating ‘a place for people to stop and stay’. Although it does not feature detailed plans it sets out a long-term strategy for an ‘improved pedestrian experience’, with reduced traffic and better parking. Angel Meadow is earmarked as a ‘key’ area for future housing and residential development.

Plas Dol-y-Moch restructure planned after council reports £150,000 losses due to Covid closure

Plas Dol-y-Moch restructure planned after council reports £150,000 losses due to Covid closure The council is planning changes to the outdoor education centre loved by generations of Coventry kids 12:14, 17 FEB 2021 Updated Children taking part at Plas Dol-y Moch (Image: The Friends of Plas Dol-y-Moch) Concern has been raised over a planned restructure at Plas Dol-y-Moch - the outdoor education centre where Coventry kids have been spending their school trips since 1966. Coventry City Council is proposing changes as the centre is running up an overspend of £500,000 this year, with losses of £150,000 even after Covid grants and Furlough cash. Jobs are under threat at the Snowdonia site, while charity The Friends of Plas Dol-y-Moch said a ‘commercial model’ is being pushed to provide alternative revenue streams other than schools, with ‘in-city’ provision also mooted.

Place North West | Contractor appointed for £14m Rochdale Town Hall

Sarah Townsend Whitefield-based HH Smith has been selected to undertake the first phase of work to restore the grade one-listed building on The Esplanade and will start on site in the coming days. Rochdale Council has already granted planning permission to the scheme and secured £8.3m from the National Lottery Fund last October enabling it to kickstart the project. The council intends to fund the remaining £14m scheme cost. HH Smith is to carry out critical work over the next six months such as electricals, drainage, wiring and the stripping out of modern additions, like mezzanine floors and MDF partitions, which the council says are not in keeping with the character of the building.

Place North West | Hive Homes on board for Rochdale 'rail corridor' housing

18 Dec 2020, 10:38 The joint venture between Greater Manchester Combined Authority and 10 housing associations plans to build 100 homes on a brownfield site in Castleton, part of a 7,000-unit programme covering land around the borough’s five stations. Proposals submitted to Rochdale Council for the former Carcraft site in Nixon Street also include the allocation of land for a new primary school, catering for 420 pupils. The planning application is for 102 three- and four-bed family properties. If approved, the redevelopment will represent a £17.5m investment into the area, and bring a better mix of housing to Castleton, which is currently dominated by terraced properties.
