Music teacher opens Shining Stars studio in Blaenavon

“Since I began teaching four years ago, starting from home and renting different spaces, it’s always been the dream to have a studio in one place with my name above the door,” she said. “I’d been searching, and viewed a few properties, but was too nervous to take the plunge. The pandemic was the drive for me to take this leap, to find a little shop in the centre of town. “As many as 80 per cent of my pupils are Blaenavon residents - children and adults. Not only will this new studio be offering singing sessions, but I’m now also able to open the doors to many more classes.

Plan to tackle Stevenage litter problem

Published: 12:00 PM April 14, 2021    Stevenage Borough Council leader Sharon Taylor with Councillor Jackie Hollywell and some of the litter they collected - Credit: Courtesy of Sharon Taylor An increasing problem with litter in Stevenage, which is currently costing taxpayers about £200,000 a year to tackle, is set to be addressed through a series of initiatives. Stevenage Borough Council leader, Sharon Taylor,  says she is shocked at people s willingness to blight some of the town s most attractive areas with rubbish. Last week, she went litter-picking in Symonds Green with her sister, Laura, and Cllr Jackie Hollywell. She said: The two areas we focused on were along Meadway Lane - a beautiful wooded walk which runs from The Fisherman pub, along behind Berwick Close to Brighton Way.

Kerry county councillor says social housing tenant who advertised kitchen on Facebook made unfortunate error

A Kerry county councillor says a social housing tenant who advertised the kitchen of the property for sale on Facebook made an unfortunate error. Labour councillor Terry O’Brien was responding to a matter raised at this month’s meeting of Kerry County Council by Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae. Cllr Healy-Rae informed the meeting that he had stumbled across a social housing tenant advertising the property’s kitchen, bath, and shower for sale on Facebook. He said this was outrageous and beyond belief, adding they were being sold for tuppence. He asked for clarification that Kerry County Council were aware of this situation, and called for a review of the tenants’ handbook.

Division over 24-hour junction closures in Brighton and Hove

RESIDENTS and councillors are divided over plans to shut two roads at one end, 24 hours a day. Brighton and Hove City Council has confirmed plans to close two junctions in the city as part of trial measures to make roads safer and ensure social distancing outside schools. From Monday, February 22, the junctions will be closed between Somerhill Road and Lansdowne Road in Hove, near Brunswick Primary, and between Queen’s Park Rise and Queen’s Park Terrace, outside St Luke’s Primary. There are plans to install bollards, so only cyclists and pedestrians will have access to these streets from one end.
